At KH Electrical, we regularly come across older-style consumer units like the one pictured above. While many of these boards, such as this MEM Memera 2000 unit, were well-built in their day and may still be functioning, modern electrical safety standards have moved on significantly.

These types of installations often rely on traditional MCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers) and don’t offer the same level of protection you'd find in a modern RCBO or dual-RCD setup. For example, current regulations (BS 7671) now require additional safety features such as surge protection devices and Arc Fault Detection in certain scenarios — all of which help to protect both people and property.
